4 day trip to Drama

Drama is a city in Northern Greece with impressive wineries and production of excellent wines. It is famous for the Aggitis River Cave, the largest river cave in Europe. Also, the Lisse Fortress is a symbol of the Greek resistance and offers an amazing view of the nature of the area. Your trip will definitely be unforgettable! We recommend a 4-day program:

Day 1 : Getting to know the area

The first stop of the day is in Mikrohori for a tour and tasting at the Wine Art Estate. Continue to Philippi, where you will learn about the rich history of the place at the archaeological site that operates daily 8:00am–3:30pm. On your way back to Drama, don’t miss to visit the traditional Eleftheriou Halvas Shop , where you will not only taste the most delicious halva, but you will also see its production process! Then return to Drama and get to know the city with a short, walking orientation and walk in the park of Agia Barbara where you can visit the church of the same name and admire the buildings of the old town. For dinner you can choose one of the restaurants in the area and choose dishes with local flavors.

Tip: In the city of Drama you can see attractions such as the mosques, the Archaeological Museum of Drama, the Hellenistic tomb, the Museum of Photography and nearby the Holy Monastery of the Ascension of the Savior.

Day 2 : Paranestia land and wineries

Depart in the morning to Andriani. Andriani, although better known for wine production today, is the newest grape-growing area of Drama. Various grape varieties are grown in the area. You can visit the wineries that characterize the viticulture of the region. Altogether there are five wineries in the Adriani area, of which you can combine the Domaine Costas Lazaridis, the Chateau Nico Lazaridi and the Oenogenesis Estate and the Manolesaki Estate which are typical of the area. Each tour will last approximately one hour and for better service, it is advisable to make an appointment. You can visit the Park of nocturnal and diurnal birds of prey located in the Agora of Drama, close to the wineries. Before returning to Drama, book a tour of the modern, visitable oil mill of the Malea Estate, in Doxato! For dinner choose local dishes in one of the taverns of the old town.

Tip: If you have enough time in the area, you can explore the nature of Paranesti, see beautiful waterfalls, such as that of Agia Varvara and unique forests such as Elatia! You can also have lunch in Paranesti with local flavors!

Day 3 : Culture and Tasting

A day dedicated to Dionysus! After your breakfast, depart for the area of Prosotsani to visit the Sanctuary of Dionysos, where you will be guided and learn about the influence of the god Dionysos in the area and viticulture. You can then head to the Oenops winery as well as the Pavlidis Estate, where you will taste unique local wines and learn a little more about their production in the area. If you have time, you can combine a visit to the river Cave of Aggitis, which is a jewel of the area and operates daily 10.30 – 17.00. On your return to Drama you can have lunch in one of the taverns of Prosotsani, where you will find a variety of local meats.

Tip: Other activities in the area that you can do are observation at Mount Menoikiocycling and rafting on the Aggitis River.

Day 4 : Mountain Drama

Start your day early and head towards K. Nevrokopi, there you will visit the Lisse Fort which adorns the area with its importance in the history of the place. Then you can visit Alistrati, where you will discover one of the most beautiful Caves in Greece, richly decorated in rare formations and many colors. Alternatively, you can make a more dynamic excursion by going around Lake Lefkogeia in a green landscape. Finally, don’t forget to get to know the nightlife of Drama, through the elegant bars or night clubs of the city!

Tip: On your departure route you can also visit the Archaeological site of Amphipolis, with archaeological findings from the area of the Strymons estuary and a multitude of other findings, it is one of the most important archaeological monuments of the country.
