The history of Halva Eleftheriou is inextricably linked to the tradition and heritage of the family of Lefteris Papadopoulos, who arrived in Drama many years ago carrying with them a precious secret: the preparation of the handmade, traditional masticated halva. From 1900 until today, this art has evolved into a family affair, keeping its values and secrets unchanged.
The Eleftheriou family, refugees from the Axis of Cappadocia, settled in Drama bringing with them the memories and traditions of their homeland. Despite the difficulties and obstacles, they managed to establish the grandfather’s dream: to create his own family halva workshop and hand it over to his son.
Eleftherios, son of Vassilis, played a decisive role in the development of the business. He gave the name “Eleftheriou” and managed to create a halva with its own character and personality, the masticated halva. The masticated halva of Eleftheri stands out for its unique fermentation, which is done with the soul and the senses. The secret of its success, according to Eleftherios, is the dialogue with the product: “You have to listen to it every time it talks to you. It’s alive, like a little angel waiting for your caress.”
Today, the business has passed to the third generation. In the new traditional site at the 14th kilometer of Drama-Kavala, the company continues to produce strictly controlled and limited quantity products, keeping the family tradition alive. With the resources and experiences of the family, innovative products are created, such as handmade chocolates with tahini and halva, rahat with carob, chocolates with tahini, tahini spreads in various flavors and tahini bars.
Each product is produced by the family, with respect for tradition and love for the consumer. Halva mastic is unique and patented, with quality and taste being its trademark.
With the business continuing to flourish, the Eleftheriou family remains true to the values of tradition, quality and love for what they do. Eleftheriou halva is not just a product, but a living tradition passed down from generation to generation.
