The area of Drama, as evidenced by scattered archaeological findings, was in ancient times a vast vineyard, which justifies the worship of the god Dionysos in several parts of the plain as well as in Drama itself. But the cultivation of the vine and the production of wine is not only a typical agricultural process. It is also an indication of well-being and level of culture. "Wine gladdens the heart of man."
Today, Drama, having already joined the pioneering tourist program "Wine Routes" and having been integrated into the "Vineyard of Northern Greece", tends to recapture for good the thread of viticulture that it had abandoned - although not completely - in the last centuries and to re-utilize its winemaking experience by opening new ambitious avenues in the domestic and international wine markets.
There are already excellent, exemplary wineries operating in Drama that base their production on privately owned vineyards, in which excellent varieties of wine grapes are grown.
The international distinctions that the wine producers of Drama have received in recent years clearly show the excellent specifications of their units, the interest they invest in the high art of winemaking, but also the excellent in every respect natural conditions that the land of Drama ensures them.
