A special castle in harmony with the local element and placed in the heart of the central vineyard you will see projecting through the long and impressive avenue. The architectural design of the winery, the work of the architect Yannis Matsini from Dram, gives the impression of a “swallow’s tail”. The history of this estate begins in the early 1980s, when Nikos Lazaridis decided to invest in a modern and state-of-the-art winery and a vineyard that, as is customary in the region, includes the well-known international varieties in an area that today reaches 650 acres (Pigadia, Agora and Hadriani areas). At the same time, however, he also experiments with lesser-known varieties, such as Greco di Tufo, Aglianico and Grecanico.
Before the formal tasting, a tour of the winery premises and a visit to the “Magic Mountain” art gallery, where exquisite modern works of art, which are the visual subjects of the labels, are definitely worth it. The rather large range of very interesting and impressive wines is produced in more than 700,000 bottles per year (from the two wineries, Drama and Kavala), of which 20% is exported. The crown of their range are the two wines of the Perpetuus series: a white single-varietal Semillon and a red blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet. Complete the experience by tasting Melissourgos with its wonderful label and unusual for a sweet wine varietal selection of Merlot.
