Ski & Snowboard

Falakro is the highest mountain in eastern Macedonia and Thrace, located in the prefecture of Drama with an altitude of 2,232 meters. It is connected to Orvilos in the west, while in the east it ends in the valley of Nestos, which separates it from the Central Rhodopes. In Falakro there is a ski center a little above the village of Volakas.

Due to the uniqueness of Mount Falakros, it is the only one in the area that serves ski and snowboard activities. It is an organized facility, with people who are always at your disposal for any question. The start of operation is always weather dependent and is usually announced electronically.

The Ski Center is one of the most important in the country due to the fact that it is the northernmost and has a fanatic audience of visitors every year due to its long duration of operation. In addition, it has plenty of snow throughout the winter as the base of the ski resort is at 1720m and the slopes are at an altitude of 2232m.

It offers a range of options to the visitor for all ski levels and for all types of skiing because it provides an excellent snow quality, many north, north-west and north-east slopes – natural slopes located at an altitude of over 2000m, the absence of terrain outcrops and at the same time the gradient alternations.

It has 21 pistes of varying degrees of difficulty with a total length of 17 km with lengths varying from 230m to 1500m. but also long-distance routes over 2500m long. and a large altitude difference from 2232 m to 1615 m on northern slopes, which are also suitable for sports events.

The Ski Center operates:

• Three sliding lifts, one four-seater aerial detachable chair, one aerial two-seater and three baby lifts, serving the ski resort’s 21 pistes.
• A snowmobile track.
• Three chalets, two at the base of the ski lift and one at the finish of the four-seater chair, with a panoramic view at an altitude of 2110m. In one of the chalets at the base of the center, operates a restaurant and can cover the overnight needs of 80 people.
• Focus points.
• Points of sale and rental of ski equipment with ski schools.

Nevertheless, it is also suitable for other activities, such as a simple walk, as it combines wonderful views in all directions: the Lake of the Nestos River and the Bulgarian border, the magnificent Gorge of the Towers, the plain of Drama, Pangaeo, Thassos, Athos, the Aegean, and even Mount Olympus with good weather conditions.
