Arriving in the Mikrohori of Drama, you will meet the architectural culmination of the friendship of Yiannis Kalaitzidis and Yiannis Papadopoulos. The architect and the civil engineer, respectively, partnered two decades ago joining forces to create the “Art of Wine” estate. Enviable vineyards on an area of more than 200 acres in Mikrohori, but also in semi-mountainous Kali Vrysi, provide the raw material for a winery that has state-of-the-art equipment, an excellent tool in the hands of the son of Yiannis Papadopoulos and oenologist, Akis Papadopoulos. But as impressive as the equipment, the vineyards and the winery itself, in the eyes of an amateur wine lover, the ultimate experience is the cellars: labyrinthine (they cross an entire country road connecting the two main buildings underground), decorated with exquisite paintings and exquisite chandeliers which diffuse their soft, atmospheric lighting in the space with the countless barrels and the “library” of tilted bottles. This is the famous “wine archive”, which includes all the vintages in the history of the winery. The sweet smell of the wine mingles with that of the oak barrels and will lead you to the specially designed tasting area. The estate’s wines are classified into two series: Techni Alypias and Idysma Drios, with their main difference being whether or not they are aged in a barrel. Wines of consistent quality, which make the producers blush. Sit back and enjoy them one by one at your leisure and leave for last their new wine, Pink Bang: a delightful pale rosé.
