Nature
The mountainous regions of Drama are a celebration of nature's diversity. In the forests of Europe one can rarely admire so many species of the plant and animal kingdom living in harmony in a landscape rich in colors and species. The scientific interest of the area is a magnet for visitors from all over the world who observe this "laboratory" of nature hiding centuries-old secrets. The importance of these areas led to the designation of a large part of them as the Rhodope Mountains National Park. The park extends from the northeastern slopes of Mount Falakro and continues north of the Nestos River to the Greek-Bulgarian border and the mountainous area of Xanthi.
Fraktos Forest covering an area of approximately 10,000 acres, designated as "unspoiled" and declared a "Preservable Natural Monument", is an important example of the uniqueness of the area. The dams, the Lefkogeia and Kokkinogeia lakes with their biodiversity, the Menoikio mountain, the springs in Kefalari which is an oasis during the summer months, the parks, the rivers, the hills around the city and the unique caves, compose a wonderful natural landscape full of beauty and endless views in every corner of the Prefecture!
